Welcome to 5th-6th Grade Summer

We are excited to have you in the 5th -6th Grade classroom! We are going to have a fun summer and a fantastic school year!

We're really glad to welcome new student Greg to our community! Greg joins Mackintosh as a 5th grader.

We look forward to checking in with you over the summer. We will continue to use ParentSquare throughout the summer, so please be sure to check in frequently for both group and whole school communications. It might be good to turn your notifications back on or off of digest so you don't miss anything. You also can access your child's class parent communication information in the FACTS school directory.

Google Classroom

  1. Go to classroom.google.com (same as your gmail.com account)

  2. Log into your Mackintosh email account

  3. Accept 5th-6th Summer Classroom invitation or use class code: piovf44

Over the summer, on our classroom website you will be able to access:

  • Summer reading suggestions and requirements (these are coming June 12th)

  • M.A.C.K.S. (fun optional enrichment activities) designed as family challenges to share with our Mack community and classroom specific challenges -- you'll see these refreshed regularly

  • Online educational websites and games vetted by your Mackintosh teachers -- we'll add to these, too (please let us know if you have a favorite site you think we should add!)

  • Opportunities for Zoom "Summer Camp" activities - Macknificents- throughout the summer

  • School supply lists -- preliminary school supply list at end of June, refined based on health department recommendations in early August

  • Detailed school calendar -- coming in July

All of these will be available through our class link (https://flex.mackintoshacademy.com/grade-5-6) This link can also be accessed through the Mackintosh Academy website, www.mackintoshacademy.com.

For extra fun this summer we are offering some Macknificent events! These will be special activities offered by your favorite Mack teachers - through Zoom - similar to those shared in the Macknificent Fun day during the last week of school. Please watch for sign-ups on Parent Square starting June 12th. Macknificent activities will be offered on select Thursdays throughout the summer. You may sign-up up to 24 hours before each event. We hope to have many fun options for all ages.

If you have any questions, you can always ask Ms. St. at tari@mackintoshacademy.com or Mrs. Muhich at nancy@mackintoshacademy.com.

CONSTRUCTIONS (Design Challenges)

June Design challenge (inspired by Phineas and Ferb): Backyard Mini-Water Park. Design a mini-water park in your backyard that has water move interesting ways. Share a picture of your design!

From the World Peace Game Foundation:

It’s time to IMPROVISE!

Jazz Tool

First, define the word tool.

Then, define the word Jazz, noting that it is an original American art form based on improvisation or creating in the moment.

Next, take any existing tool (a hammer, telescope, telephone, eyeglasses) and improve it in some way, making it more useful than before. You may add functions, but it still must operate as the tool was originally intended.
